Destination – A Glimpse at St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands
This was our first of three ports of call on the Norwegian Escape eastern Caribbean 7 night cruise.
St. Thomas Havensight cruise port
The view from our Starboard side balcony was directly of the Havensight port in St. Thomas. From here we could also see the cable car that would take you to the top of the hill for a view. Apparently the view and a restaurant are very good, but that is all that is up there and it costs $21 USD for as many ups and downs as you want.
We arrived at 7.30am and made our way ashore around 9am after breakfast. A few other ships also arrived after us, MSC Divina is arriving and docks right behind us.
At first, we were considering going up for the view on the cable car but then a local gentleman said not to bother and rather sold us on a tour. We paid $25 USD for this tour along with 7 others and spent the next 2 and a half hours getting a glimpse of St. Thomas.
We left the port and made our way through town and up to a lookout.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
This was our view from the top of the hill looking down over the town of Charlotte Amalie and the port.
From here we continued to another lookout this time to the other side, the Atlantic side and a view down to Magens Bay.
Magens Bay St. Thomas USVI
Next we had a quick stop in at Magens Bay beach which costs $5 per adult over 13 years!! The beach looks nice from our quick glimpse, I can’t comment any more having not got out of the van, it is listed as one of the worlds most beautiful beaches though.
Our tour continued along the high road with great views past the Mahogany Rum golf course where the likes of Tiger Woods and Bill Clinton played. (a bit of trivia)

Next up was a quick stop down at Coki beach, with clear blue warm waters and LOTS of people…

Near to Coki beach is where you’ll find ‘Coral World’, another tourist destination.
Our tour ended for us in the town of Charlotte Amalie where we walked around the market, before heading into the old town area. The driver would have taken us back to the ship.
The markets in Charlotte Amalie
Old town area of St. Thomas USVI
The old town area is quite nice with the buildings very close making really nice alleys to walk down. We stopped in a cafe for a coffee and a few drinks before heading back to the ship.
The town here was rather busy with us tourists and Charlotte Amalie has been taken over by gem stores trying to sell you the best cheapest (expensive) diamonds… So sad.
Walking to or from the ship to Charlotte Amalie
The walk back to the ship is very nice and not difficult at all, with a nice pathway to get you home safely. Also allows for a nice view of the ship.

This is a very nice port of call and one that we would like to visit again.
