Chion-in Temple in Higashiyama area of Kyoto

It is slightly raised from the road among some pine trees but you can’t miss it, standing 24 meters tall and 50 meters wide, it is the largest wooden gate in Japan.
To reach the Chion-in Temple you must walk many steps to the top but it is worth it.
There are very nice buildings with lots of character, however, the main part, the Miedo Hall is under restoration until 2019 and is covered as you can see in the top right photo but this still does not disappoint.
