Our AirBnB Apartment in Alicante, Spain

AirBnB in Alicante, Spain

I made the choice to stay in Alicante because of a few reasons. One because of the glorious weather down the south-east coast of Spain, two because of the ideal flight connection from Southampton after arriving there from the transatlantic cruise over from Miami on Celebrity Eclipse and three because I’d found a nice looking place on AirBnB at a fair price.

As a child I’d grown up with friends having summer holidays on the Costa Blanca, in particular the beach resort town of Benidorm and remember their postcards of long sandy beaches with bronzed bodies and clear blue water with ‘having fun in the sun’ written on the back 🙂

Neither Moni nor I had been to this part of Spain before which made it all the more exciting for us.

After some good communication with Juan from the Alicante apartment I committed to the booking.

We arrived at Alicante airport after a comfortable flight with the Flybe airline. This was our second flight with them which was a good simple no frills service.

Juan & Melanie met us at the airport and took us directly to one of the closest beaches for a welcome drink and to chat for a while which was really nice. Then we drove to the apartment where they showed us a few things and made sure we were fine with everything.

The hosts were very generous indeed and had bottles of water, milk, wine, tea & coffee and some other items all there in the flat to make our first evening/day comfortable. Plenty of washing soap, shampoo, toilet rolls etc in the bathroom and also a full stock of detergents and bin liners etc really very impressive from these hosts 🙂

The photos below give you an idea of how our new home looked.

We were on the fourth floor which was the top of the building along with three other apartments. The apartment is quite compact yet had everything you’d need.

The entrance hall with the kitchen directly to the right.

The kitchen is tight even for skinny me but it was very functional with a wash machine, dishwasher large fridge freezer, microwave, small benchtop oven, toaster, kettle etc.

And best of all was a nice view towards the castle in town, unfortunately my photo doesn’t really do it justice. Oh, and don’t mind the facades of the other apartments that hang out washing to dry.

From the entrance way you walk directly into the lounge/dining area.

Here you have a pull out couch, coffee table and dining table plus tv, some books and items.

A huge window allowed for great daylight and a view over the other flats and the gardens below.

The two bedrooms are small, but who needs a huge bedroom to just sleep in, right! The slightly larger one has a double bed the other a single and a spare. The rooms have ceiling fans and windows with the same view as from the lounge. They could do with fly screens that’s for sure 🙁

This is the bathroom which again is compact but functional. Water pressure was not great but nothing to upset us. The entire place was very clean and tidy and what we’d call a well set out home, not just an apartment with the basics to rent out. We were very pleased 🙂

After a couple of months we’d discussed what to do next and considering that we were really very happy here we decided to extend for nearly another three months.

Long term stays with AirBnB do work out best for both us and the owner. Juan was very pleased to have us extend and it worked out just perfect.

The area is not directly in the center, but only a 25 minute walk or a short bus ride.

There are stops less than two minutes from the apartment as you can see from the photo above with the apartment block in the background.

About 7 minutes away is a large shopping center called Gran Via with a huge Carrefour shop and plenty of other stores.

Another few minutes away along the Avenida Pintor Xavier Soler which is a long wide road with a green walking area between the lanes, you’ll find lots of bars, cafes, like Taberna Triana for coffee & breakfast, Cromwell’s Irish pub, and other places. and other shops, hairdressers etc everything you’d need is close by.

We bought a couple of bicycles to get around with which worked out really well especially as Alicante is very bike friendly. Which we got miles & miles of use of especially as the weather was so good, even the not so nice days were amazing.

On days like that we stayed home and enjoyed some local food & wine 🙂

We are certainly looking forward to another stay in Alicante in the future.
