Bättmer-Hitta to Moosfluh Hike
Funny thing, here in the mountains I’m waking and getting up at around 6.30am every morning no problem. Back at home I struggle to get out of bed at 7am!! Maybe it’s got something to do with getting der anke auser… lol
Day 1248 – August 1st, 2017
Day 5 Bettmeralp
Swiss National Day
Brassli & Mister were doing a big hike today and we Moni & I chose something a little less strenuous. But before our walk begins we must pass through the village.
Bettmeralp village
Haha, now you know where the blue wool comes from.
Once again we take the chair lift up. Most days we used this lift as only a few lifts are in operation during summer months. This one and the Moosfluh lift are the closest.
Bättmer Hitta restaurant breakfast
Once at the top we decided to head to the Bättmer Hitta restaurant for a coffee. On the way we passed a couple… and breakfast was for free!!
Today is August 1st which incidentally is Switzerland’s national day. The restaurant was full and we had a bite to eat before continuing on with our walk.
The walk form here was pretty much all upwards to Moosfluh.
Up to Moosfluh
Today our walk was up to Moosfluh. A different direction from the first day’s walk from Riederfurka to Moosfluh.
This was the first time we saw these reeds during the entire week until our final walk. They had what looked like cotton wool at the tips.
Once at the top we had yet another view of the Glacier.
Did you know…
The glacier is the longest in the Alps at 23 kilometres. At Konkordiaplatz it is 1000 meter wide and the estimated weight of the Aletsch Glacier is 27 billion tons, which is the equivalent of 72 jumbo jets!
Now you know.
Walking trails all around
At the lookout platform you can see all around, and even use the telescope which actually tells you the name of each mountain as you move around, pretty cool. Oh and it’s FREE.
From here we took the cable car down to Riederalp base before walking back to the chalet.
As it was such nice weather we spontaneously decided to enjoy a coffee and coupe on the Waldhaus terrace.
Today’s walk was hours and we covered km
