The view from the restaurant La Tour des Vents in Monbazillac

Day 510 – July 24th, 2015.

About an hours drive from Pellegrue in the Gironde region of France where we are staying is the one Michelin star restaurant La Tour De Vents.

This restaurant boasts not only a Michelin star but also a view to challenge any fine meal.

Today we decided to make a reservation and visit La Tour des Vents in Monbazillac with our friends.

On arriving at the restaurant we were taken to our table, unfortunately not on the terrace with the view, but rather in the back corner. The restaurant was soon full and the maitre’d was turning people away on the telephone. We were fortunate to be able to book so last-minute.

Menus and wine list were handed out and we studied them for a while, finally choosing white wine and then red wine. Here we find on the wine list the red & white wine from Patricia Atkinson the lady that Moni read a couple of books about recently. She came to France and set up a vineyard many years ago, and since then has sold up but still has a say in the production of her wine.

The a la carte menu is considerably more expensive than the menu de jour.

The menu de jour which is a three course set menu and available for 29 Euro.

Three of us chose the menu de jour while Moni decided on the vegetarian menu at 35 Euro.

A taster from the kitchen arrived in the centre of the table.

Bread and wine was served, followed by an amuse bouche of tomato jelly with basil mouse which was really tasty, with strong flavours.

The vegetarian option was;

Then our main courses.

Moni had a coffee to finish which was served with a small glass of cream with amaretto, very nice touch. The only bad thing which we picked up was here, the burnt base of the small sponge as petite four.

Our lunch at La Tour des Vents was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the time here. Definitely worth a visit at lunchtime with great value menu de jour. The total for the four of us was 169.00 Euro.
