Margaritaville dining experience

Margaritaville is on the open deck under the Ropes Course where it can get a bit blustery, however with the good hot summer days of the Caribbean where the Escape will be located it should be fine.

For the first week of our Inaugural Transatlantic crossing this place was very quiet due to the poor weather, but as soon as the sun came out for the last three days it was packed and you waited up to an hour for your table. The question is, is it worth the wait?

The Margaritaville at Sea menu has many of the classics that you’d expect to find, like the Cheeseburger in Paradise and Key Lime Pie, all available at sea on the fabulous Norwegian Escape.

Margaritaville at Sea restaurant review

It was a fine day up on deck and after waiting for 32 minutes we were taken to our table. Our server promptly came and brought us some water. Soon after she returned to take our orders, Moni’s cocktail of choice was ‘License to Chill’ and meal was the Chicken Quesadilla. I stuck to water and had the Cheddar BBQ Burger followed by Key Lime Pie.

We waited a while but not overly long that you’d question if the meals were coming.

The meals were hot and tasty though my burger lacked any wow factor. Needless to say the cocktail didn’t last long.

As for the Key lime pie, having sampled them down in Key West I knew it would be hard to beat and sure enough this didn’t come close.

Overall the food and service we had were fine, especially considering how busy it was. Margaritaville is not something that I’d personally need to rush back for but obviously very popular with the burger crowd.

On a hot Caribbean afternoon it will probably be the place to be especially as it is complimentary. Cocktails at around $12 and other drinks that you’d expect at a Jimmy Buffett place were flowing to those with the UBP. Don’t forget, all drink prices on the menu will get an 18% surcharge added to the total bill.

Our score was 7/10.

Not bad but not fantastic either. I think the position is good, ideal to get to when lounging by the pool all day. We didn’t try here for breakfast due to the cool mornings on our cruise.

Was this the worst score for a restaurant on the Norwegian Escape? Take a look at the Brazilian Churrascaria restaurant and see how that scored.

Have you dined at a Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville before? How does this speciality restaurant on the Norwegian Escape compare? How would you rate the dining options on Norwegian cruise ships? Be sure to tell us about your favourite dining venue of any ship in the comments below.

(update from February 2016… This place is no longer open for breakfast, but even more disturbing is that it’s now ala carte priced NOT complimentary. On our latest cruise on the Escape, the Margaritaville restaurant was not as busy as I had expected, I wonder why)

We really did enjoy our evening dinner & show combo at the Supper Club where we saw the Brat Pack live, you can take a look here.
