Our Camino – Day 10, Los Arcos to Viana
Our Camino – Day 10, Los Arcos to Viana – 18 Kms
Day 10 of Our Camino
Day 535 – August 18th, 2015.
Albergue La Fuente Casa Austria
After a pretty good nights sleep we were up and enjoying a very fine breakfast, considering it’s included. Plenty of fresh good bread, not just the crappy white toast stuff, this was like crusty wholemeal loaves. With all sorts of preserves, the only thing missing was a good coffee. There was the normal black juice coffee if you liked.
With full bellies we made our way. Los Arcos was a lot quieter this morning with hardly a soul to see apart from the odd pilgrim and street cleaner.
Our destination today was Viana at roughly 18 km, many pilgrims actually go further on this day to Logroño but that’s around the 28 km distance.
This view greeted our shadows today… The way keeps on going and in the distance possibly a small village.
About 7 km from Los Arcos we find a cafe in Sansol. The coffee was average at best, but it gave us a chance to rest.
Very close by is Torres del Rio, and if you have a Camino guide-book with detail it might suggest a better place to stop. We didn’t bother too much with the finer details of each place and hence stopped where we wanted.
When we walked with the girls, the German Camino guide-book was full of detail giving much more information on places to stay and cafe’s etc.
The views are amazing looking across to the mountain range.
Along the way you often see statues or monuments made from balancing rocks on each other. This area was full of them.
Even though we had our bananas with us for a daily snack, we always tried to help out the local vendors making an effort to offer foods & beverages to the pilgrims on the route.
Just past these rock statues around the next corner is a small stand and shelter. We enjoyed a cold beer (on tap) and a sandwich here.
The way was up and down and in places quite steep. The path often covered with small stones which move under your feet with every step, going downhill you need to take care.
Reaching Viana we check in to one of the first Albergue we find which is actually below the main part of the town.
Next up, we find ourselves in the town where we manage to get a pilgrim menu from a cafe that was still serving around 3 in the afternoon.
We then enjoyed a stroll around Viana taking in the wonderful architecture. Beautiful archways and buildings all around. We came across preparations for a concert that would be on later that evening.
Back at the old church ruins for the concert.
