Road Trip to Ballina, Lennox Head & Byron Bay
This road trip was a spur of the moment decision, we just felt like a coastal drive. From Lismore, we headed to Ballina. One of the BIG icons that are quite the thing around Oz is the Big Prawn at Ballina.
It pretty much caught us by surprise luckily Moni was fast with her camera to snap that shot as we drove past with the flow of traffic.
Ballina has an East, South and West area of which I have no idea where the photo above belongs 🙂
We just drove and drove until we came to the end of what was Ballina before the road heads further north. We had just past a store and felt like a coffee.
We had great coffee at the Belle General on Shelly Beach road which is opposite Shelly Beach, so after our coffee fix, we took a walk along the beach.
From here we drove back into Ballina and stoped in the main street to have a look around.
You can easily get to the waterfront which is basically one road over from the shopping street.
Now it was time for lunch. I spotted the name of this fish shop ‘A Fish Shop Called Dory’s’ which kinda spoke to me and so I was sold on some fish n chips. Verdict… It was bloody good and only $10
Onwards along The Coast Road to Lennox Headland where we stopped at Pat Morton Lookout for the view basically.
At the car park, you can walk up to the right which requires navigating some steep steps and following a path for a short distance.
This is the view that you are rewarded with, it’s to the other direction along the coast.
From here we continue to Byron Bay. We have been to Byron Bay on a few occasions over the years when we lived on the Gold Coast.
There is a Lighthouse at Cape Byron which is worth visiting up there if you are in Byron Bay for the first time, the views are amazing. Having been before we just relaxed near the beach under a tree before enjoying another coffee in town.
Next, we drove back to Casino via Bangalow, Clunes & Lismore. As you can see, it was a great spontaneous day out.
