Driving from Broken Hill to Cobar

Day 15th September 2019

This is day 2 of our road trip from Strathalbyn SA to Aspley QLD. Yesterday we arrived in Broken Hill having covered 650 km since leaving Strathalbyn

This morning we were up early and in town enjoying coffee at The Silly Goat. in Argent Street. The coffee and service were really good here, plus plenty of locals which is always a good sign.

I really love these long straight wide roads with easy angle parking. All around you can notice different art pieces when walking the footpaths.

Our first stop today was a visit to the top of the mine area as we wanted to see the outback town in a different light. Yesterday we arrived in Broken Hill in the late afternoon.

From here we drove to The Living Desert and Sculptures which is only 12 km out of town. It’s a return drive, and some say it’s worth it others don’t… If you never go you’ll never know!

Entry costs $6 per adult… and is open from 8.30 am to 6 pm

I have dedicated a blog post solely for the Living Desert if you wish to see more images from here.

The 460 km, 4hr & 50minute (google said) drive took us via Wilcannia & Cuba to Cobar. It took us longer as we chugged along at 95 k’s.

Finally arriving in Cobar for our second night in a motel. This was pretty average, to say the least. We stayed in a budget room for $99.00 at the Copper City Motel.

We had a meal and drink in the Great Western Hotel in Cobar.

After a very filling dinner and a stroll up and down the street, we retired to our room.
