Visiting Colon In Panama For The Day
Day 281 – December 8th, 2014.
Day 5
Visiting Colon in Panama for the day.
Today we arrived in Colon at around 10am. It was a beautiful sunny day yet Moni was suffering from what we believe to be bed bug bites.
They were very red and itching like mad which didn’t leave Moni feeling very pleasant at all. And so we decided to stay onboard. Not a bad thing really as many had said there is not much to see or do here, but like everything people have very different views and so next time we will visit Panama City as it would be nice have a look (full of sky scrapers).
We had breakfast in the main dining room this morning which was quite nice and Moni’s plate of fruits was huge.
This was the view from the Spa deck 10 down to the Colon port.
“The Thalassotherapy pool & Spa Café”
We spent many hours at the Thalassotherapy pool hoping that the salt water would help relieve the bites. It did, but not much.
A nice healthy lunch from the Spa cafe where you can build your own salad like at the Oceanview, but a lot less crowded. Then some more time in the pool, not too many people around at this time, however it changed as the late afternoon came.
We had coffee and cake in the café al Bacio again and this time it was a better, with Ira remembering us.
“This is the drinks menu in the Café”
On the other side of the ship was a fuel tanker that spent nearly the entire day refueling.
In the distance from our balcony we could see the rains and we were even more pleased to be onboard, later those guests that were on tours said they had lots of rain in the city of Panama.
We departed Colon around 7pm and we had dinner in the main dinning room at a shared table, tonight with painful guests… a couple of old lady’s who were sisters and a husband and wife where the husband said nothing but she made up for that, a real estate agent traveling a friend a broker… What a party, NOT.
They were definitely not the best dinner guests and having we managed to stir up the pot nicely with them we made a hasty retreat after our last mouthful of desert. On leaving the dining room we said to the host Ana, please never again them, she took a look at who and said oh I know!!
The “Beggars Purse” which I had for desert was one of the worst deserts I have had on a ship… the crepe was half crunchy half semi stiff and the filling was non existent, very disappointing, not an ideal desert for a ships menu.
