Speciality Dinner in The Olympic Restaurant on Celebrity Millennium
Another sea day today making our way to the next port of call being Petropavlovsk in Russia. And tonight we’re excited about dinner in the Olympic Restaurant, but before that, let’s tell you what we got up to.
Day 73 – May 15th.
Cruise Day 6 – At Sea
After all that fog last evening, we woke to a somewhat wet cold bleak day outside. Today we had room service breakfast and a bit of a lay in, a good place to be on a day like that.
Did someone say free champagne
At 1pm we ventured out to the art auction where we enjoyed a glass or two or three of free champagne while watching the pieces of art pass on the easel. A few pieces sold, the most expensive over the few days that we were present was around $7000.
Apart from the art auction, the highlight of today was dinner.
Tonight was our second speciality dinner, the first was last night in Qsine.
Dinner in the Olympic Restaurant
This time we are dining in the Olympic Restaurant, which is the French themed fine dining venue.
A very elegant dining room with the front part furnished in the wood from the original Olympic cruise liner, which was the sister ship to the Titanic.

We sat at a table quite close to the kitchen and could see some of the action through the huge glass window which is open until the end of service when it closes so they can clean up in peace…
In the Olympic restaurant you can sample a variety of delicacies and experience full gueridon service. This is where the experienced waiters cook or finish dishes at your table side, using skills to carve, flambé and even create from scratch a meal right before your eyes.
Before we even chose our meals we received a small welcome taster from the kitchen.
The Olympic was quite busy tonight yet the staff seemed to have everything under control.
We placed our order for our meals with our waiter and ordered a bottle of red wine with the sommelier.
We had the best Lobster bisque & Cheese soufflé for our starters.
The Bisque was poured at the table and you could add your own amount of cream and small pastry fleuron. The flavour was superb, rich & creamy, yet delicate.
My soufflé may not look exciting but it tasted wonderful.
Not long after our starters were cleared away the waiter wheeled a trolley over to the table and prepared everything ready to receive our Chateaubriand which he would then carve and serve on the prepared plates with vegetables and sauces.
Returning to the trolley with our piece of beef, he then sliced it up and arranged it on the plates and offered us red wine sauce and béarnaise sauce.
The meals were delicious, however by the time we were finishing the meal was quite cold. I guess that’s the trade-off to having the extra show of table side service, either that, or the guys had the timing off tonight.
Anyway, moving on, after looking over the dessert menu, I decided on the chocolate mousse and Moni chose a selection of cheese to enjoy with the last of the wine.
Very nicely presented and yummy to eat. Smooth and delicate with a crunchy rice puffs as the base.
Moni chose the cheeses from the selection on another trolley, which was cut and plated at our table.
After all of that, we had coffee & tea along with a selection of petite fours.
Overall, the dinner was very nice and well presented. The ambiance calm and enjoyable, the service professional and not over the top. The nice thing in the Olympic is also the tables are a nice distance from each other which is great, exactly how a fine dining restaurant should be (and also needed to allow space for the Gueridon trolleys).
The menu has plenty of choice and another time we’d try other dishes.
There is also a degustation menu that is paired with a glass of wine with each course for $89 per person. The normal a la carte side is $45 per person. With the four dinner special we bought, ours worked out at $25 per person per restaurant which was a real bargain.
I think even at full price it would be a good value dinner, and we would certainly go again.
