Our First Empanadas in Envigado, Medellin
Our very first time eating Empanadas from a stall along the road in Envigado, Medellin. These are among the most popular fast foods of Colombia and are very tasty indeed and cheep.
Day 173 – August 22nd.
“What are Empanadas?”
The easiest way for me to quickly explain for those Brits reading, is to liken them to a “Cornish Pastie” the difference being that these are deep fried and not baked.
They are a round disc of pastry or dough that is folded in half enclosing in a filling of meat and vegetables. The outside is crunchy and the filling soft.
The way the people here eat them is to squeeze fresh lime juice over and spoon on some spicy salsa, they are yummy and very cheap 1400 peso each about 80 cents per piece.
You can find many of these stalls walking around the streets here in Envigado. I found this website that goes all out about Empanadas if you want to read more.
